Wishing All Mom's a Very Happy Mother's Day

Here is what I made for my lovely Mother who lives far away in Florida...

A small x stitched  heart that can be used as a paper weight on her desk(Mom doesn't sew, so this is not a pin cushion!) The "B" stands for Barbara!  It  is filled with crushed walnut shells so it is heavy!

Yesterday we had our first big bus!  What a thrill!  Over 30 quilters filled the Shop with fun and laughter.  Gracie wanted to board the bus, but the ladies kept streaming out and of course she had to greet each one.

Backing into the parking lot was a breeze!

Pat's  site is so inspirational!   Also just in is "Kaufman's" Waterford Linen in natural, 100% Linen in a 54" width.  What will we sew with this wonderful linen?  We have expanded our "Kaffe Fassett" Aboriginal Dots and Spot fabrics to include all  the juicy colorways!  Come and see soon!

March Magic

Life is magical here at the Waterwheel House Quilt Shop!  Every day we get something new! Just in....

The "Camelot" collection by Jason Yenter.  2 gorgeous colorways-

Jason has published a new book of patterns to go along with this line.  The patterns are based on the Camelot Tales.

Beep Beep by Alexander Henry is a very substantial weight for quilting cotton.  We are glad that this company has not sacrificed quality for price.

 
Moda's line, Robotics is too darn cute for words!  I am working on a quilt using both of these boyish prints which I will reveal soon.

Little Girls will delight in Ballerina Fairies  from Moda.

"Oh My" by Sanae from Moda is a home dec weight twill at a remarkable price.  Love the chocolate and teal companion fabrics, so rich.

Have you seen these great woven fabric baskets?  We have a way to make these in a snap.  In stock is  heavyweight nonwoven stabilizer strips, precut for use in this pattern by "Aunties Two".  How cool is that?

Want to try the latest zipper craze?  We have the patterns and the zipper accents to make pins, bracelets and necklaces.  The patterns,  "My Garden Zips" and "Zipper Jewels"  are by Amy Barickman for Indygo Junction.  The packages of zipper accent trims contains one yard each of five colors.  Think of the possibilities to create and embellish!

A little girl on Spring Break would love this easy to sew, easy to wear dress.  The varigated hibiscus flower fabric is designed by Alfred Shaheen, "Hawaiian Prints-Pua Nani".  Aloha!  The pattern is "Polka Dots & Summer" from Fig Tree & Co.

Our new Improv Club Meeting on Friday was a blast.  Our savvy sewers met every challenge with enthusiasm and confidence.  Here are a few samples of their amazing work.

Their homework was to find a photo they liked and select colors from the picture to match fabric and create!  Citrus Delight!

Remember, our next Improv Club II  meets the last Friday in July and ends in November.  You can register now to reserve a space for the Summer/Fall Club.  No prior improvisational piecing experience is necessary.  Club is limited to 10 participants.  Registration fee is $25.  You pay $10 a meeting for supplies and instruction.

March 11, thru the 20th is the Vermont Shop Hop.  We will be open special hours during the Hop.  Daily 9-6 pm, including Sunday and Monday.  The last Sunday, we will close at 3pm. 

Here are our 2 Shop Hop Projects we designed especially for this year's Hop.  We used the Shop Hop Fabric in each project.  Passport holders will receive free patterns for each project and kits will be available.  Hoppers will receive a discount on the kit prices as well.

More kiddy fabric including adorable flannels are here in our small side room.  Some of our home-dec fabric by Denyse Schmidt(County Fair) and Amy Butler solids are housed here.  We also carry a line of "Kwik Sew" patterns for the novice garment maker (or quilter, like me!)  We have books and patterns to make clothes for 18" dolls and doll making supplies too!

 
In what was once the original living room of this old house, you will find unique flannels and lucious wools and wool felt.  We carry moda wool as well as "Weeks Dye Works" and National Nonwovens wool/felt blends.  For our hand embroidery friends we have Finca #12 perle cottons in an array of colors for cross stitching, wool applique and redwork.  Here you will also find wonderful books and patterns that feature wool and embroidery projects.

 
Art Quilting Supplies occupy a portion of this space.  We feature supplies to alter fabric such as Shiva Oil Paint Stix, Rubbing Plates and Stencils from Cedar Canyon. fabric paints and dyes, Angelina Fibers, foils, fabric markers, wool blank bags to embellish  with charms from "Art Girlz", wool roving and felting equipment, buttons and more!

Glorious Quilts

Our customers are so darn talented!  Look at these beautiful quilts.  The first two are part of our 9 Patch Challenge event.

Sandy's wool applique in a crazy log cabin setting.  This is all hand appliqued and will be hand quilted.  Way to sew, Sandy!

Okay, now here are some samples of Truddie Greene's work.  She sells her quilts and wall hangings locally and does quilts on commission.  She is amazingly talented using Kaffe Fassett's fabrics.  In this table runner, Truddie quilted a length of Philip Jacob's Seashell fabric for Westminster Fibers.  We have this fabric in 4 colorways.  It is too pretty to cut up!!

Sitting atop this quilt made by Amy H. and her 11 year old daughter is Miss Waterwheel in her new outfit, designed by Patty Young for Mod Kids patterns.  The fabric is by Patty for Michael Miller.  We have a whole new line of wearables for little girls and their dolls.  We also have a new line of "Voile" fabric and patterns for filmy summer blouses and dresses for women.  The Waterwheel House is not just about quilting.  We are about SEWING!!

Great class last weekend.  These gals are getting a head start on their Christmas projects.  Pictured are seated, Cindy, standing in pink is Ceil and Carol in blue.  Their log cabin wreath wall hangings will be beautiful  We still have a few kits available.

Our Classroom

We have rearranged the class room and have room for 12 happy sewers.  We provide irons and boards and cutting mats.  Please bring all supplies you need for your project and Basic Sewing Supplies.  You can reserve one of our machines or bring your own.   Every Tuesday from 10:30-3:30 is Open Sewing for $5 sew with friends or make new ones.  No Instructor but we do pop in and out to give our "2 cents" whenever asked!

This is a National Challenge to make 1million pillowcases for Charity.  We will contribute our pillowcases to local charities.

Cedar Canyon Paintstix

I have been having a ball playing with the oil paintstix from Cedar Canyon.  First I created a "Fall" painted quilt. Pictured here...

 This is a "rubbing" technique using rubbing plates of different leaves and oil paintstix.  If you  read "Quilting Arts" magazine you will recognize this technique. It is a child- like pleasure, coloring!

Shelley will be hosting 2 Holiday Workshops the first two Sunday afternoons in December.  On the 6th, participants can work on finishing holiday gift projects or start a new one. 

A paper pieced holiday pine tree pattern will be available for free and Shelley will teach the basics of paper piecing for those of you that wish to make a small wall hanging.

For you Art Quilters, Shelley will be demonstrating how to create rubbings  using Christmas motifs with oil paintstix. 

The following Sunday, the 13th, Shelley will show participants the basics of wool applique.  You can make a large or small Christmas stocking.  Or if you want to try your hand at a small art quilting project, Shelley will show you how to make ornamental gift tags.  All supplies for these projects will be available at the shop or you can bring your own.  Call the shop for details.

The workshops have a $15 fee. 

This is a great time to learn new skills and have uninterrupted sewing time with friends.

If you are free on the 6th or the 13th or both, call or email the shop to let us reserve a spot for you.

Here are some of our latest additions...

Look at this "Birdie Sling " Bag pattern made up in Valorie Well's new "Deli Hi" Line of fabric, wow!  There is a contrasting lining of butterflies in a grey and brown colorway.

We have been making kits for the "Fruitcake" pattern by Allison Designs.  This pattern is for a beginner and we made the kits in two colorways, the rich colors of autumn or blue and white.  All of the fabric in the kits are by Kaffe Fassett.

 You can call the shop to order a kit.  Look at this beautiful laminated fabric from Westminster Fibers.  This is home dec fabric and is perfect for bags, table runners, placemats, table cloths, clothing and more.  Many of the contemporary designers are having their fabric laminated today.  This opens up a world of possibilities for us sewers and crafters.

Our new porch is finished and wow, what a beautiful addition to the shop!  Finally we are done with our exterior renovations!

My husband Andrew and his helper, Alan deserve kudos for their outstanding work on the Waterwheel House.  Oh and one last thing for now.  We had the letters on our sign darkened so we can be more visible from the road.

Deb Tucker's Visit

Fall has arrived and what a surprise we got last Friday!  Deb Tucker our friend, teacher and celebrity quilter, pattern and tool designer stopped by on her way to a teaching engagement.  She loved the shop and gave me a quick lesson on how to use her new tool,  "The Wing Clipper" that takes the math, waste and difficulty out of constructing those pesky "flying geese units".

I hope to book Deb for a retreat in 2011.  She is all ready booked for 2010!

Gracie has been doing a "bang up" job greeting our customers in the parking lot and is very tired at the end of a long day.  We have a pattern that makes Dog and Cat Collars.  Here is Grace with her Kaffe Fassett "necklace".  She is so proud!

This Saturday I am teaching a "Wool Penny Rug" Class from 10:30-3:30.  Come and learn the basics of this "sister"craft to quilting.  Wool applique and felting techniques will be taught.

On Wednesday, October 7 Dianne Yelton will be teaching a "Snazzy Apron" class.
